MCC bids farewell to campus president Utpal Goswami

Dr. Utpal Goswami, president of MCC-Longview, thanks colleagues for their hard work and for being “true leaders.”

Friends and colleagues gathered Dec. 12 to say goodbye to Metropolitan Community College-Longview President Utpal Goswami, who will become superintendent/president of Santa Barbara City College in California. He will begin his new role in January.

Goswami spoke briefly at the event, stating that it is bittersweet to leave MCC at a time when so many positive initiatives are being implemented, including the expansion of the College’s footprint, and possible annexation and new revenue opportunities on the horizon.

Goswami gave much credit to the staff and faculty he has worked with at both MCC-Maple Woods and MCC-Longview, expressing his gratitude for their hard work and leadership.

“People are good. If you start with that perspective, you can do a lot with people,” Goswami said. “When you have a great group of people, great things will happen.”

“Dr. G” joined the College in July 2013 as president of the Maple Woods campus in Kansas City’s Northland. He moved to the Longview campus in Lee’s Summit in July 2018.

MCC-Longview Vice President David Oehler welcomed guests and wished Dr. Goswami well. “He has been a wonderful person to work with,” Oehler said. “I am going to miss him a lot.”
