Statement from MCC Chancellor Kimberly Beatty on Oct. 10 HHS event

Dr. Kimberly Beatty, Metropolitan Community College Chancellor

Oct. 9, 2019

We’ve been receiving questions from some community members about the Oct. 10 event that will be held on Metropolitan Community College’s Penn Valley campus.

MCC is a public college that hosts a variety of events and speakers on our campuses. In this case, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services asked if they could hold their roundtable at MCC-Penn Valley. This will be the seventh of 10 HHS child-care roundtables taking place around the country. The roundtables are not public events. Officials coming to Kansas City for this event include U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, Ivanka Trump, U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt and Missouri Gov. Mike Parson.

The Department of Health and Human Services asked me and one of our students, a parent, to take part in the roundtable discussion, which among other topics will touch on early childhood education and workforce needs. These are both subjects of great interest to me, Metropolitan Community College and the Kansas City community. I’m pleased to have the opportunity to be a voice in this discussion.
