Metropolitan Community College celebrated the opening of its new site at Hillyard Technical Center in St. Joseph with a ribbon cutting Sept. 18.
MCC, in partnership with St. Joseph School District, is offering expanded education and training opportunities at Hillyard under the name MCC-Maple Woods | St. Joseph.
The first MCC programs being offered at the site are certified nursing assistant (CNA) and welding technology, which started this fall. MCC plans to launch its machining/lathe and production technician programs, as well as general education courses in English and communications, next spring.
As soon as the accreditation process is completed, MCC will offer associate degrees in radiography, sonography, surgical technology and licensed practical nursing (LPN) in St. Joseph. Ultimately, through an established partnership agreement with Missouri Western State University, MCC will be able to create pathways to bachelor’s degrees at the St. Joseph site.
MCC Chancellor Kimberly Beatty lauded the unified efforts that led to the opening of the St. Joseph site.
“We have absolutely been inspired by the spirit and dedication of the St. Joseph community in their sincere desire to provide the needed educational resources to continue building and growing the workforce,” Dr. Beatty said.
The opening of MCC's St. Joseph site is the culmination of the collaborative work of MCC with the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce, St. Joseph School District, Missouri Western State University and Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education.
