Metropolitan Community College has named Dr. Dreand Johnson the associate vice chancellor for academic affairs. He starts July 1.
Johnson was most recently at Iowa Central Community College as vice president of academic affairs. Prior to that he served as dean of academic affairs at Tarrant County College, Trinity River Campus.
While at Iowa Central Community College, Johnson was responsible for all aspects of accreditation for the college. He also served as the liaison for all academic vice presidents in the state with the Higher Learning Commission. Johnson played a key role in leading the curriculum process at Tarrant County College and, in collaboration with faculty, implemented a streamlined curriculum process at Iowa Central Community College.
A former history professor, Johnson describes his leadership style as “visionary and collaborative.”
“I fully support the principles of shared governance, which allows my team an opportunity to have vital input in administrative decisions and strategic objectives,” he says.
Johnson holds a a bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University, a master’s from Houston Baptist University and a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
