Congratulations are in order for a Metropolitan Community College softball player. Megan McDonald, who plays on the MCC-Maple Woods Monarchs softball team, was recognized as a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 1 Player of the Week.
The NJCAA announces weekly awards for the top athletes across the country. McDonald was announced on Feb. 22 for play from Feb. 12-18.
McDonald was thrilled to be honored.
“I’m thankful for my coaches and teammates to be given an opportunity to play and to be named National Player of the Week,” she says.
“Megan had an absolutely incredible week for us. She led us offensively and played great defense at shortstop,” says Coach Kary Kankey.
“She’s so athletic and makes so many plays on both sides of the ball. She goes hard 100 percent of the time and makes things happen offensively and defensively, and she has solidified our infield defense.”
McDonald is a freshman from Kansas City and talented at more than softball.
“She played soccer for us (last) fall, so she missed the entire fall ball season, but was able to fit in with the softball team from her first day with us,” Kankey says. “I’m so proud of how she played last week and excited about her future here at Maple Woods.”
“I’m pretty blessed to play the sport with the people I have around me and the support system I have,” said McDonald.
