Wednesday, Aug. 23, was the first day of Metropolitan Community College’s 103rd academic year. It’s great to see everyone! Best wishes for a successful, fulfilling year.
Here are some first-day scenes from around MCC (click any photo to see it larger):
It was Laker Blue Day at MCC-Longview, with free T-shirts, wristbands and candy at tables outside. Inside, students met their instructors and started hitting the books. (Photos by Clay Bussey)
At MCC-Blue River, there was free food (almost) everywhere you looked, from “Pancakes With the President” (Dr. Michael Banks) outside to cookies and lemonade in the Welcome Center. Speaking of pancakes — if you don’t catch the Chris Cakes as they’re hurled at your plate, you earn the Plate of Shame! (Photos by Bob Florence, Ashley Seymour and Rowdy Pyle)
At MCC-Penn Valley, a special guest dropped by from Kansas City Public Schools: Superintendent Mark Bedell, who visited the Early College Academy. New campus president Dr. Tyjaun Lee (who took a selfie with Dr. Bedell) was also on hand. The ECA program allows motivated KCPS juniors and seniors to take classes on the Penn Valley campus. They graduate with both their high school diploma and with an associate degree from MCC. (Photos by Jordan Williams and Clare Otto)
At all five campuses, staff and students directed new students to their classes and answered questions. Here are a few more scenes from the first day of fall semester at MCC-Penn Valley. (Photos by Clare Otto and Tim Engle)
