Award keeps admissions manager energized to continue growing student leadership

John Hudson

As John Hudson moves into his second year with Metropolitan Community College, he looks forward to continuing service work with an organization that already has honored him for his efforts to bring about change.

Hudson, admissions manager at MCC-Penn Valley, started with the College in June 2016. One of the things on his calendar in the first few weeks of the school year is helping the campus with logistics for hosting 20/20 Leadership juniors and seniors.

20/20 Leadership is a professional development program for Missouri and Kansas high school students. This year’s seniors are meeting for the first time Sept. 1 at the Penn Valley Education Center, and the juniors will gather Sept. 14 at the campus’ Health Science Institute.

Hudson received the 2017 Community Engagement Award from 20/20 Leadership last spring for his partnership and support of students pursuing higher education.

“Receiving the award meant a great deal to me because of my dedication to making a difference in the community in which I work and live,” says Hudson.

20/20 Leadership’s curriculum consists of many areas, one of those being college and career exploration. This past year, thanks to Hudson’s interaction, many of the organization’s program days were held at the MCC-Penn Valley campus. The same will be occurring this year.

“Our partnership with 20/20 Leadership allows us the opportunity to be involved with developing high school students from around the Greater Kansas City area,”  Hudson says. He expects an even stronger partnership this school year.
