Students heading back to class this fall will notice some renovations at Metropolitan Community College-Blue River. On June 13, the campus held a ribbon-cutting to debut its newly dubbed Enrollment Center.
The Enrollment Center is an area where several student services offices are located, such as academic and financial aid advising, student records and student payments.
“The renovations added more space for students, including more computers for students to use and a larger waiting area. We want our students to be comfortable and feel welcome in this new space,” says Rene Bennett, interim associate dean of student development.
In the Enrollment Center, students will work with staff to develop an educational plan, enroll in classes and get help with the wide variety of funding options available to them.
“Our goal is to make the Enrollment Center as user-friendly and student-centered as possible,” says Rowdy Pyle, MCC-Blue River enrollment manager.
The space was previously the campus’ student development center and has been renamed to align the name with other centers on MCC’s campuses.
Bennett says she also reached out to other colleges and universities to see what they called similar spaces on their campuses. “Many of our students transfer to local four-year institutions, so I felt a similar naming convention would help our students who would be transferring on. Lingo is a big part of what students have to get used to when attending a new college.”
