Rapulu Okolo, a Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley student, has won a scholarship from the Kansas City branch of the American Association of University Women.

The AAUW National Conference for College Women Student Leaders Scholarship will allow Okolo to attend the May 31-June 3 conference at the University of Maryland at no cost to her. About 900 college and university women and campus professionals will come together to “hone their leadership skills, make lifelong connections and get ready to shape the world.”

Okolo is enrolled in MCC and Kansas City Public Schools’ Early College Academy, which means that as a high school studentĀ  — at Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts — she takes college classes full time on the Penn Valley campus. She should be picking up both her high school and MCC diplomas within two days in May.

Okolo was recently named one of six MCC students (and one of 40 statewide) who earned spots on the All-Missouri Academic Team. Earlier this year, she also won a scholarship from the Black Achievers Society of Kansas City.
