MCC-Penn Valley 18th and Vine Jazz Festival welcomes Dejohnette, Coltrane and Garrison

Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley has a great lineup in store for its annual collaboration with  the American Jazz Museum for the 18th and Vine Jazz Festival.

The three-day festival, which runs from April 20-22 this year, is a non-competitive event that provides middle school, high school and college students with an outstanding musical experience as well as an opportunity to gain deeper appreciation for Kansas City’s rich jazz heritage.

Student participants will benefit from clinics with outstanding musicians and have the option of attending evening performances that will entertain and inspire.

MCC is pleased to work with several notable jazz artists again this year, including Jack DejohnetteRavi Coltrane and Matt Garrison.

Thursday, April 20

  • 8 a.m.-5 p.m.: School performances
  • 8:30 p.m.: Blue Room performance

Friday, April 21

  • 8 a.m.-5 p.m.: School performances
  • 6 p.m.: MCC-Penn Valley Jazz Ensemble performance
  • 8:30 p.m.: Blue Room performance

Saturday, April 22

  • 8 a.m.-5 p.m. School performances
  • 5:30 p.m.: Jazz clinic featuring Jack Dejohnette, Ravi Coltrane and Matt Garrison
  • 8 p.m.: Jammin’ at The Gem concert by Jack Dejohnette, Matt Garrison and Ravi Coltrane
  • 8:30 p.m.: Blue Room performance
  • Tickets to the Saturday night performance are available to festival participants at a significantly reduced price, $20. Blue Room tickets are $10.

All student performances are free and open to the public.
