Veterans Day events planned across the MCC campuses


Metropolitan Community College will host events collegewide in honor of Veterans Day, Friday, November 11, 2016.

MCC-Blue River

  • Date and time:  Wednesday, Nov. 9-Friday, Nov. 11, times vary per event
  • Locations:  vary per event
  • Event:  Free green light bulb giveaway.  Green Light a Vet – green is the color of hope, renewal and well-being. This is a program where a green light bulb is powered to show support for veterans.  Bulb giveaway at MCC-Blue River Campus Life and Leadership, Nov. 10-11.  Also, the campus will have green spot lights shining on the Education Center building.
  • Event:  Thanksgiving Day lunch, 50% off for all veterans, MCC-Blue River Cafe, Nov. 9-10, regular cafeteria hours. (Elite Cuisine will donate $1 for each dinner purchases to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation.),
  • Event:   Cake and hot chocolate, MCC-Blue River Campus Center, Nov. 11
  • Event:   Missing/fallen soldier table, MCC-Blue River Cafeteria, Nov. 9-11, all day.

MCC-Business and Technology

  • Date and time:  Fri., Nov. 11, all day
  • Location:  MCC-Business & Technology East Lobby
  • Event:  Wall of Honor/Missing Man display

MCC-Maple Woods

  • Date and time:  Wednesday, Nov. 9, times vary per event
  • Locations:  vary per event
  • Event:  free donuts are available for veterans in the MCC-Maple Woods Campus Life & Leadership Office, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Event:  Veterans Upward Bound representative, MCC-Maple Woods Student Center, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Event:  Thanksgiving Day lunch, 50% off for all veterans, MCC-Maple Woods Green Leaf Cafe, during regular cafe hours. (Elite Cuisine will donate $1 for each dinner purchases to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation.)
  • Event:  Public is invited to  honor veterans by adding their name to posters around campus.

MCC-Penn Valley

  • Date and time: Fri., November 11, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Location: MCC-Penn Valley Campus Center Cafeteria (2nd level)
  • Event:  Memorial Service
    • Color Guard–conducted by the American Legion Post 609, Commander Bernie Grado, Sr.
    • Guest speakers
      • Tony Ross, Ed. D., MCC-Penn Valley interim president
      • David Jerome, Ph.D.,  U.S. Army Major (ret.), Northwest Missouri State University political science professor
      • Dina Juarez, Missouri Army National Guard Sergeant (E5), 1139th MP Co.
