Contest: For MCC students and employees, a chance to take part in the Royals’ longest first pitch

Relay the Way co brandMetropolitan Community College is getting ready to show its Kansas City Royals pride just as the 2016 season gets underway: We’re giving students and employees a chance to be part of Relay the Way, an event that promises to be the longest-ever first pitch in Royals history.

Relay the Way will start at Union Station and wind its way to Kauffman Stadium on Sunday morning, April 3. (The boys in blue’s home opener is that evening.) Hundreds of people spaced 20 feet apart will toss the ball until it gets to the pitcher’s mound.

MCC has secured 10 spots in Relay the Way, five for students (one per campus) and five for employees (ditto). The event is a fundraiser for Kansas City’s MLB Urban Youth Academy.

Here’s how we’re forming #TeamMCC and how you can be eligible to win one of the 10 spots:

1. The team will include five currently enrolled MCC students and five MCC employees.

2. We will randomly draw one student and one employee from each of our five campuses who engage with MCC on social media as described below. MCC Administrative Center, Broadway Plaza and Health Science Institute staff will be part of the MCC-Penn Valley campus drawing.

3. Take the following steps on either MCC’s main Facebook page  or our main Twitter account:

On Facebook, you must “like” MCC’s main Facebook page.

Then send us a DIRECT message via Facebook AND attach a selfie of yourself.

The message should read: #TeamMCC #GoRoyals #RelayTheWay @MCCKansasCity MCC-(campus name here) student (or employee)

On Twitter, you must “follow” MCC’s main Twitter account, send out the following tweet AND attach a selfie of yourself.

The message should read: #TeamMCC #GoRoyals #RelayTheWay @MCCKansasCity MCC-(campus name here) student (or employee)

Examples of messages (just trade out the campus name):

#TeamMCC #GoRoyals #RelayTheWay @MCCKansasCity MCC-Penn Valley student

#TeamMCC #GoRoyals #RelayTheWay @MCCKansasCity MCC-Maple Woods employee

4. To be eligible for the drawing, likes, follows and messages must be received by 11:59 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2016, when the contest ends.

MCC may use the selfie pictures as promotional content, including but not limited to social media and the MCC website.

Once the 10 names are drawn from the qualified entrants, MCC will contact the winners via social media. You will have 24 hours to respond and accept your spot on #TeamMCC for Relay the Way.

To be clear, there is no obligation or cost to participate; sweepstakes winners will be determined by a random drawing.

MCC Communications and Public Relations has the team slots reserved with Relay the Way and will manage the entrance logistics for team members. FAQs are on the website. MCC’s team members will receive free Relay the Way T-shirts. Further details will be communicated once the team has been established.
