MCC cancels classes Tuesday, Nov. 3, in honor of Royals’ World Series victory

RoyalsWinMetropolitan Community College classes have been canceled Tuesday so students, faculty and staff can take part in the Kansas City Royals’ World Series victory parade and rally.

As Chancellor Mark James explained in a message to the MCC community today, the College’s connection to the Royals goes back to the team’s legendary former owner, Ewing Kauffman:

“As you know, it took an MCC alumnus to bring the Royals to Kansas City, and we have honored that alumnus, Ewing Kauffman aka “Mr. K,” as our most prestigious alumnus in our 100-year history! …

“I have received a lot of input that students and employees want to savor the moment and celebrate the occasion planned for tomorrow. Therefore, I am pleased to announce that WE WILL BE CLOSED TOMORROW so everyone can enjoy being an MCC fan of the Royals!”

The closure affects all five Metropolitan Community College campuses: MCC-Blue River, MCC-Business & Technology, MCC-Longview, MCC-Maple Woods and MCC-Penn Valley.

The College is hoping to gather students and staff together in one spot at Union Station on Tuesday to cheer on the Royals together.
