Video: MCC’s look back at 100 years

100 Years, 100 Stories

Video: Today, MCC has transformed into the largest public education provider in the area and is one of the premier community colleges in the nation. With five campuses located across the metropolitan community, MCC serves more than 37,000 students every year. “MCC Works” to prepare students, serve communities and create opportunities. From the beginning, MCC has been a vibrant and ever-changing system that works to create a better community through education.

Video: Metropolitan Community College has a proud tradition of providing a high quality, affordable education to students in the Greater Kansas City region and beyond. We were first founded as the Kansas City Polytechnic Institute in 1915 and opened our doors with 200 students. Now 100 years later, we have transformed into the largest higher education provider in Kansas City  and the third largest in the Missouri. With five campuses located across the metropolitan area, we are now serving more than 37,000 students every year.

Over the last ten decades, hundreds of thousands of students have chosen an MCC education. MCC Works due to our students’ tenacity and commitment to learning, and our mission to prepare students, serve communities and create opportunities for the past 100 years.

When MCC students are finished with their education, 96 percent stay to live and work right here in Kansas City. Celebrating our Centennial is a monumental occasion that speaks to the tremendous growth, adaptability, and impact that MCC has had in this region and beyond. We were innovators from the start, being one of the first institutions of higher education in the nation to offer an associate degree when we opened our doors in 1915. We will continue to lead the charge on educational innovation as we start our next 100 years. We are excited that you are celebrating this important milestone with us.
