MCC-Longview Lakers Volleyball Team Heads to National Tournament

MCCLongviewVolleyballSaturday, Nov. 8, MCC-Longview won the Regional Volleyball Tournament at East Central College in Union, Mo., to capture the 2014, NJCAA Division II, Region 16, District O (Missouri/Oklahoma region), crown.

The Longview Lady Lakers defeated Wentworth Military College in three straight sets, and then downed Northeast Oklahoma A&M in the Finals, also in straight sets, to go undefeated at 6-0.

The Lady Lakers now travel to compete in the NJCAA, Div. II, National Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz., Nov. 20-22. They are one of only 16 teams to compete for the National title.

Three Laker players were selected to the 2014 All-Region 1st Team:  Angela Roberts (sophomore, middle hitter), Bailey Rexford (freshman middle/outside/right side/back row, hitter), Miranda Jamison (freshman setter).

Lakers Head Coach, Rob Kaleikau, won Coach of the Year Award, Region 16/District O.  He shares this award with Clint Culbertson, Longview Athletic Director; Marnie Winters, Assistant to Athletic Director; and Darin Bowers, Assistant Coach.

The Lakers last visit to Nationals was in 2011 where they placed 8th in the nation under current Head Coach Rob Kaleikau, and then Assistant Coach Marnie Winters.
