Please join us in welcoming Hasan Naima, Ph.D., the new president of MCC-Business and Technology.

Naima comes to MCC from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in Salisbury, North Carolina, where he served as dean of engineering and business technologies.  There, he was responsible for more than 100 full- and part-time faculty and staff in 15 programs of study. In this role, Dr. Naima has developed industry relationships and secured grants from the National Science Foundation, the Golden LEAF Foundation, the U.S. Department of Labor and Duke Energy.

He has also served as special assistant to the provost and professor of engineering and mathematics at Northern Virginia Community College-Woodbridge Campus where, among other duties, he acted as project manager for a $25 million renovation and construction project. In a previous role, Naima served as dean for the Technical Education Center at Kansas City Kansas Community College where he launched programs to help re-train workers for the manufacturing industry, created programming for green energy careers and created a school-to-work program for students seeking a general education degree.

In addition to his extensive experience in academic and career programs, Dr. Naima brings CEO and international experience in industry, higher education administration, research and teaching.  In 2012, he delivered a series of presentations for Chinese educational administrators from Beijing entitled, Higher Education Leadership and Student Success. He also delivered a presentation for 28 Turkish governors concerning career development in the public sectors in 2011.

“MCC has committed to a major re-engineering to be even more transformative, dynamic and relevant to the region’s 21st Century economy, leveraging our ability to prepare students for a baccalaureate degree at a university or to be career-ready for Kansas City’s businesses and industries,” said Mark James, chancellor of the five-campus Metropolitan Community College system. “Dr. Naima not only brings a unique blend of extensive experience in both academic and career programs, but has actually been a CEO of a multi-million dollar international company.”

Dr. Naima holds a B.S. and M.S. in plant science from Utah State University. He also received his B.S in engineering from Washington State University and earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Idaho.  He is a recipient of the Henry Louis Excellence in Teaching Award, and has served on the boards of the Workforce Partnership, Kansas State Area III, Kansas Bioscience Committee and the Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture.

“I am pleased to join Metropolitan Community College, and I am enthusiastically looking forward to working with Chancellor James and his team to make this very special institution even greater than it already is. I am honored to serve as the next president of MCC-Business and Technology. I have every confidence that there is absolutely no limit to the educational and training opportunities we will offer to our MCC students,” said Dr. Naima.

Naima began his new role as president of MCC-Business and Technology on May 5, 2014.
