MCC mourns the loss of a friend, philanthropist

Marion and Henry Bloch
Marion and Henry Bloch

The MCC community mourns the passing of Marion Bloch, a kind and generous friend to the college and to the Greater Kansas City community.

Marion and her husband, H&R Block co-founder Henry Bloch, have long been known for their caring commitment to civic and philanthropic causes around the city. Indeed, the couple has been very kind to MCC.

Most recently, Marion and Henry served as honorary co-chairs of MCC’s third annual Five Star Gala in 2012, helping raise a record amount of money to support student scholarships and special campus projects. The couple has also been generous with their financial support of students and student programs. Through the H&R Block Foundation and the Marion & Henry Bloch Family Foundation, as well as their personal contributions and gifts, the Blochs have supported such programs as the Henry W. Bloch Scholars program, the Francis Institute for Child and Youth Development at MCC-Penn Valley, the annual Storytelling Celebration hosted by MCC-Maple Woods, the MCC Foundation Five Star Gala, the MCC-Penn Valley Health Science Institute and the Malcolm Wilson Enrollment Center at MCC-Penn Valley.

Henry is known to speak very fondly of his wife’s role as a stalwart partner in his life and he gives her credit for many of the family’s accomplishments. Our thoughts are with Henry and his family as they mourn Marion’s loss and celebrate her life.

We thank you, Marion, for your generous support of MCC and for your support of people and organizations across Greater Kansas City.
