Unique college fair will introduce hundreds of high school, community college students to HBCUs

More than a dozen Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) from across the U.S. will be represented at an event this Friday at MetropolitHBCU Logo 2013an Community College-Penn Valley.

More than 800 students from high schools around the city are expected to attend the third annual HBCU Experience, a college-transfer fair that connects local high school and community college students with HBCUs. Anyone interested in learning about college transfer opportunities from MCC-Penn Valley to an HBCU is encouraged to attend.

Students will get information about admission requirements and financial aid material for each college and university and will be able to take part in workshops on topics such as financial aid and scholarship opportunities, time and money management and getting the most out of the college experience.  MCC-Penn Valley’s college prep partner organizations—Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri, United Way of Greater Kansas City, YMCA of Greater Kansas City, Urban League of Greater Kansas City and Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City—will be on hand to get students registered for ACT courses and other college-preparation support services.

The HBCU Experience will be held on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at MCC-Penn Valley. The campus address is 3201 Southwest Trafficway, Kansas City, Mo. 64111.
