Monarchs, Lakers named regional champs, head to district tournaments

Not one, but both of MCC’s baseball teams were crowned NJCAA regional champions over the weekend and are now heading to district championships.

 

PrintThe MCC-Maple Woods Monarchs defeated Crowder College (9-6) on Sunday at Jefferson College, earning the Division I, Region XVI championship title. Now, the team heads to Warner, Okla., for the South Central District championship tournament, where they will play Connor State College (Okla.) and Delgado Community College (La.). The winner will advance to the NJCAA Division I World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.

 

Longview Lakers

The MCC-Longview Lakers beat the Wentworth Red Dragons (11-2) on Friday at Wentworth and again on Saturday (30-8) at Longview, earning the Division II, Region XVI championship title. Now, the team heads to Tishomingo, Okla., for the Plains District Championship, where they will play Hesston College and Murray State. The winner will advance to the NJCAA Division II World Series in Enid, Okla.

 

The Monarchs, a Division I team, have a regular-season record of 25-25. The Lakers, a Division II team, have a regular-season record of 32-17.
