HUNT_LAMAR_HeadshotThe Hunt family and MCC share a unique connection: the year Hunt brought the Chiefs to Kansas City, establishing what has grown into the largest regional fan base in the NFL, is the same year MCC began its expansion from a junior college to a true regional community college. Now, 50 years later, the Hunt name in Kansas City is synonymous with much-adored sports teams and the MCC name is synonymous with accessible higher education and workforce training.

Hunt was a sports and recreation pioneer at both the local and the national level. In addition to bringing professional football to Kansas City, Hunt was also the founder of the Kansas City Wizards (now Sporting Kansas City) and the Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun theme parks. He established Hunt Midwest Enterprises, a real estate development firm that has employed 55,000 people since 1985, and created the Hunt Midwest SubTropolis, the world’s largest underground business complex. On a national scale, Hunt founded the American Football League, Major League Soccer and World Championship Tennis; he is a member of the national football, soccer and tennis halls of fame.hunt family small

Hunt’s sports and business ventures are now managed by his wife of 42 years, Norma, and his four children: Sharron, Lamar Jr., Daniel and Clark.

The Five Star Gala, now in its fourth year, is the Metropolitan Community College Foundation’s largest fundraising event. Past honorees include Henry Bloch and the Henry W. Bloch Scholars program; the Francis family and the Francis Family Foundation; and the Dunn family.

CiCi Rojas, new president and CEO of the Central Exchange and a member of the MCC Foundation board of directors, is chairman of the 2013 gala committee. Jean and Bill Dunn, Sr. are the honorary chairs. Popular dance band Atlantic Express will provide the entertainment.
