MCC hosts soldering industry event at Southland Center

On Friday, Dec. 7, the MCC Institute for Workforce Innovation (IWI) hosted a soldering industry roundtable discussion at the MCC Southland Training Center.

Twelve representatives from area manufacturers were in attendance, including Current Electronics, SOR Inc., Honeywell, Labconco, Avatar Engineering, and Ultrax Aerospace.  Visitors were given a tour of MCC’s state-of-the-art soldering lab.

IWI facilitated the discussion.  Topics included industry training needs and opportunities, as well the possibility of forming an advisory council on soldering.

MCC has recently been awarded the Jobs Accelerator grant through the U.S. Department of Labor.  The grant is intended to support advanced manufacturing in the area by providing training for new and existing employees.

Specifically, the grant allows MCC to provide additional training options and consultative support for six advanced manufacturing companies and funding to prepare for IPC certification.  This will establish MCC as the only provider of such training in Kansas and Missouri.  Currently, companies have to send employees to Colorado or Texas to get IPC certified.

Manufacturers expressed interest in forming an advisory council on an on-going basis to help MCC better support their training and education needs.
