US Education Secretary Arne Duncan holds town hall at Penn Valley

Increasing college access and graduation rates for Hispanic residents was the focus of a community event Sept. 18 at MCC-Penn Valley that featured U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and National Council of La Raza CEO Janet Murguia.

The forum, which drew hundreds of educators and Latino leaders, was part of  a White House initiative called the Education Drives America Back-to-School Tour. Guests were greeted by pleasant fall weather at the outdoor event, which presented a challenging topic and included inspiring messages from Duncan and Murguia as well as audience participants. The forum was streamed live on the web for interested participants who were not able to attend in person.

The forum drew local and regional media coverage, including on Fox4, NBC Action News, Spanish-language television station Univision and in The Kansas City Star and KC Hispanic News.
