Scholarship fund gets boost in memory of beloved pet

When Karen and Stephen Clegg’s dog, Auriel, died unexpectedly in 2007, the couple wanted to do something to honor their beloved pet’s memory. Impressed by the outstanding care provided by the MCC-Maple Woods-trained veterinary technologists at their veterinarian’s office, the Cleggs decided to establish an MCC scholarship in Auriel’s name to support the vet tech program at MCC-Maple Woods.

The Auriel Clegg Vet Tech Scholarship is awarded to one veterinary technology student per semester and can be used to cover tuition, fees and books. Since its establishment in 2007, the scholarship fund has awarded a total of $8,000 to four Maple Woods students.

Now, five years after Auriel’s passing, the Cleggs have given an additional gift to MCC, adding $10,000 to the scholarship fund.

“This generous gift in support of students in the MCC-Maple Woods vet tech program means an additional 10 students will have the opportunity for financial support as they pursue a vet tech degree,” said Chris Morrow, D.V.M., head of the Maple Woods vet tech program. “So many of our students need a financial boost to help them follow their dreams of a career working with animals, and we are truly grateful to the Cleggs for helping MCC help these students.”
