Strong relationship with Kansas City Royals allows Monarchs coach to participate in All-Star game

Maple Woods Monarchs head coach Marty Kilgore works in all facets of the baseball world in Kansas City – from recruiting players and coaching the Monarchs and hosting camps for area youths at the Sports Training Center to serving as an associate scout for the Kansas City Royals and helping them develop young players in their system.

Through his work with the Royals, Marty was able to coach some of the best players in Missouri and Kansas for the Royals’ scout team, and also throwing batting practice during pre- and post-draft workouts for those hoping to make it big.

This year, his efforts earned him a spot at the All-Star game, pitching batting practice for the American League and Home Run Derby, and assisting in the dugout during the game.

“It’s really an honor to throw to some of the best young men in the game right now, and watch them make great plays,” Kilgore said. “It’s a great and unique experience to just sit in the dugout and listen to them being themselves and just sharing a love for the game.”
