HR officials said the Wellness Center, on the first floor of the Health Science Institute building at 3444 Broadway, experienced low utilization.
Here’s the statement from HR:
After much deliberation and study a decision has been made to end the current contract for operation of the MCC Wellness Center. This will take place on January 31, 2016. Unfortunately, while the care provided was excellent, employee utilization of the Wellness Center was not sufficient to make it financially sustainable. The level of utilization after 2.5 years of operation has not sufficiently increased, making the cost to our insurance plan for a visit to the Wellness Center more than three times the cost of an employee visit to their own physician.
We are currently exploring alternative arrangements to provide employees with convenient access to quality low-cost options for the type of care provided by the Wellness Center. We will be working with both the Insurance Committee and the Wellness Committee as we look at potential new options.
Keep in mind that the Wellness Center will remain open for a few more months. Hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays. Call 816.604.4555 or 866.959.9355 to schedule an appointment.
Many MCC employees can visit the Wellness Center for free. For those on the high-deductible medical plan, visits cost $20.
See the Wellness Center for allergy/asthma care, sinus infection/flu, muscle and joint pain, weight loss, disease management, preventive care, headaches, sprains and strains, sports physicals, flu shots and more.
The Wellness Center, which is operated by Healthstat, opened in January 2013.
