MCC-Penn Valley Scouts upset #1 team to advance in NJCAA Tourney!

MCC-Penn Valley Scouts beat #1 Louisburg College (NC) yesterday at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) men’s basketball Division 2 national championships in Danville, IL. Scouts

The David-and-Goliath battle ended with a final score of 88-86. Penn Valley’s season record was 17-12 vs. Louisburg’s 32-1.

The Scouts advance to the next round tomorrow and will challenge Brown Mackie College at 6:30 p.m. The game will broadcast live on NJCAA webcast at

“The guys are excited and happy for the opportunity to play in the national championships. We want to play and represent Penn Valley and Kansas City well,” says Marcus Harvey, MCC-Penn Valley athletic director.”

The Scouts have won its regional championship 12 times, been runner-up nine times, has gone to the national tournament 12 times and won the national championship in 1995-96.

The NJCAA is celebrating its 75th anniversary and consists of two year colleges and institutions accredited by appropriate state and/or regional accrediting agencies. NJCAA sports include: baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, half marathon, ice hockey, indoor track and field, lacrosse, outdoor track and field, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, wrestling.
