Each month MCC-Penn Valley employees nominate one of their own to receive the “Scouts Making a Difference” award.
August winners are Lane Van Ham (faculty) and Christina Berg (Staff).
Lane has gone above and beyond the expectations of his job in the last year. He stepped up to be a member of the district English Core Group that has worked to design and develop pilots for the three FOCUS grants. This work has been difficult at times and time consuming while also requiring a high level of collaboration and flexibility. Finding the right person for the job is critical for the success of any new programs. Lane has proven that he is able to successfully navigate the accelerated classroom and guide students through two semester of writing in one semester; he has also trained and supported students as Supplemental Instructor leaders who are asked to do a very challenging job in addition to their own studies. He has definitely been the right person.
Christina is always upbeat and goes the extra mile with all of the students she comes in contact with. She is a great team player and is always willing to share all of her knowledge with the whole team in the testing center, and is an overall great person to work with. She always has a positive attitude and a willingness and ability to problem solve. The Dean of Students asked for volunteers to serve as a backup team for advising and orientation sessions as we entered the busy part of the semester. Christina volunteered and attended training to allow her to help with the enrollment process for our new students. I have enjoyed working with her and value her feedback and helpfulness.
