If there is one local family whose name is as synonymous with philanthropic giving as the Blochs and the Halls (the honorary chairs of MCC’s 2012 Five Star Gala), it’s the Dunns, who have just been announced as the gala honorees.
A household name in Kansas City because of the nearly century-old JE Dunn Construction Company, the Dunn family is made up of skilled businesspeople and caring philanthropists alike. It is their generosity and community-mindedness that led the MCC Foundation board of directors to select the family as the recipients of the 2012 Five Star Award, to be awarded at the third annual Five Star Gala in March.
The Dunns were selected for this honor, “because of their long-term support of MCC and their generosity to numerous community service organizations,” said Vincent Anch, director of the MCC Foundation.
The Dunn Family Foundation has provided generous financial contributions to local organizations that provide education, art, family services, healthcare and youth programs in the Kansas City area. In addition to being financially benevolent, members of the Dunn family give generously of their time, volunteering and providing leadership to countless nonprofit agencies, including MCC, Don Bosco Centers, Second Chance, Donnelly College and UMKC, among myriad other organizations.
As for MCC specifically, the Dunn family has supported the college in many ways over the years. Bill Dunn, Jr. currently serves as a director on the MCC Foundation board and formerly served as chairman of the board. William Dunn, Sr. served as honorary chair of MCC’s capital campaign that began in 2009; his wife, Jean Dunn, is an MCC alumna and Jean’s father, Charles Aylward, is an alumnus. The Dunn Family Foundation has contributed generously to MCC, including a sizable gift for the 2009 capital campaign.
MCC and the MCC Foundation thank the Dunn family for their many years of exemplary service and generosity to educational and social service organizations throughout Greater Kansas City. We are especially grateful for the Dunns’ gifts of time, talent and treasure to the five-campus Metropolitan Community College system.
The family will be honored at the third annual Five Star Gala on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Sheraton Crown Center.
