2018 in-service: Personal care items needed for ‘Dignity Drive’

Wanted: items such as shampoo, deodorant, lotion, laundry soap, baby wipes, toothpaste and toilet paper. For MCC in-service on Tuesday, Aug. 21, employees are asked to bring personal care items to drop off in barrels in the Business & Technology lobby. The District Staff Council has partnered with local nonprofit Giving the Basics, which helps students and others in need across Greater Kansas City.

Here are examples of items needed for this “Dignity Drive.” Items with asterisks are most needed.

Giving the Basics partners with more than 65 nonprofit organizations and 14 area school districts to distribute personal care items such as shampoo, deodorant, laundry soap and toilet paper. These items help people across the Greater Kansas City area: low-income families with small children, students, battered women, veterans, senior citizens, former prisoners and the mentally ill.

Giving the Basics provides products that allow children to attend school feeling fresh, comfortable and open to learning. They help young adults address issues needed to gain employment. From homeless teens to single moms, veterans to recently released prisoners, Giving the Basics positively impacts members of our community from many walks of life. It serves children and families of all ethnicities and religious beliefs.
