Watson joins MCC Foundation board

Maurice A. Watson, a partner at law firm Husch Blackwell and a prominent civic leader, has joined the board of directors of the MCC Foundation.

Watson’s appointment to the board was approved at a November 17 meeting of the MCC board of trustees. He will serve a three-year term.

Watson, who specializes in education law, is a member of Husch Blackwell’s executive board. He is a frequent speaker on the legal rights of students and employees in schools as well as the school board’s role in teacher terminations. Prior to joining the firm, he served as senior aide to U.S. Sen. John Danforth.

In addition to several local, state and federal bar associations, Watson has been involved with a number of local and regional nonprofit organizations. His volunteer leadership roles include service as an officer on the boards of The Barstow School, Children’s Mercy Hospital, the Kansas City Art Institute, the Kansas City Ballet and The Learning Exchange.

Watson’s appointment to the MCC Foundation board, which comes on the heels of the addition of two other prominent business leaders, Karen Zecy and Jason Dalen last month, brings the number of directors to 22.
