Volunteers needed for the inaugural Matt Mason Memorial “Cowboy Up” Triathlon

Many MCC students and employees have come to know the story of Matt Mason, the former MCC-Maple Woods monarch and community leader who was also a one of the Navy’s elite SEALs. Mason was killed in the line of duty in August 2011.

Among Mason’s many active pursuits was his love for competing in triathlons, and his friends and community have come together to host the inaugural Matt Mason Memorial “Cowboy Up” Triathlon on Aug. 5, 2012 at Smithville Lake.

Chancellor Mark James has registered his support for the event, signing up MCC as gold sponsor for the event.

Registration is still open for the triathlon – those interested can sign up at http://www.cowboyuptriathlon.com/registration/. Employees who may NOT be triathletes, however, are still encouraged to get involved by volunteering the day of the event.

MCC is looking to put together a volunteer team, or several teams, of employees for the day of the race. Volunteers are needed in all areas, including check-in, bike/race/swim route assistants, lifeguards, water watchers, clean-up/tear-down, the green team and more. For more information, or to sign up, go to http://www.cowboyuptriathlon.com/volunteer/. Employees wishing to volunteer together should indicate the same preferred volunteer area.
