National Skills USA gold medalist to start freshman year at MCC-Maple Woods

From a field of more the 6,000 competitors in over 100 different skills-based contests, Excelsior Springs native Jared Raffel walked away with a gold medal in sustainability solutions, a competition focused on environmentally-sound processes for today’s industry.

Jared graduated with honors this spring from Excelsior Springs High School, and was also one of Missouri’s district and state champions, winning bronze and silver medals in the Skills USA competition before moving on to Nationals.

As for his future, Jared will be completing his first two years at Maple Wood using funds from Missouri’s A+ program. For his junior year, he plans on transferring to the University of Missouri – Rolla to pursue a degree in electrical engineering.
