Metropolitan Community College Students Receive Student Leadership Award

Five Metropolitan Community College students were recognized on the state level for their student leadership. The awards were presented during MCCA’s fiftieth annual convention.  The Missouri Community College Association is a statewide organization through which Missouri’s community colleges work together.

MCC-BLUE RIVER’S LEAVER RECEIVES STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD

MCC-Blue River student Ashley Leaver received the Missouri Community College Association’s Student Leadership Award. She has been a peer leader as part of the College 100 new student orientation course. She has also been instrumental in the formation of the Umbrella Club, which works to make all students feel at home on campus regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Leaver is a recipient of the MCC-Blue River Service and Leadership Award for 2013-2014 and has been on the Dean’s Honor Roll.

 

MCC-BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY’S MILLION RECEIVES STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD

MCC-Business & Technology student Marcus Million received the Missouri Community College Association’s Student Leadership Award. Million’s advisors describe him as a quiet leader both in the classroom and in campus activities. He also works at the BTC’s Fab Lab in support of the Inventors Group of Kansas City.

 

MCC-LONGVIEW’S WONG RECEIVES STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD

Metropolitan Community College-Longview’s Grace Wong received the Missouri Community College Association’s Student Leadership Award. Wong is active in her campus’ chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and has worked to promote the Community College Completion Corps initiative.

 

MCC-MAPLE WOODS’S HARRIS RECEIVES STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD

MCC-Maple Woods student Marcus Harris received the Missouri Community College Association’s Student Leadership Award. Harris has been a student leader on the Maple Woods campus. He has been an active member of the Campus Activities Board and consistently helps keep his peers motivated and engaged.

 

MCC-PENN VALLEY’S HARRIS RECEIVES STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD

MCC-Penn Valley student Victoria Harris received the Missouri Community College Association’s Student Leadership Award. Harris is a student leader at the Penn Valley campus and is working to become a paralegal.
