MCC welcomes new school neighbor to Midtown KCMO

CWCKC LOGOMetropolitan Community College has a new school neighbor and is happy to welcome Citizens of the World Kansas City (CWCKC) to Midtown.

CWCKC is a public charter school opening this August and is currently accepting students for enrollment in the Kindergarten and First Grades. At the new campus at 3435 Broadway (on the corner of Armour Blvd.), CWCKC will carry out its mission of providing an excellent public education focused on developing and demonstrating understanding while building connections within a diverse community.

The Midtown area of Kansas City is a community rich with cultural and racial diversity. CWCKC’s program recognizes that every child benefits when a diverse community comes together to learn, interact, and grow. Students will be prepared to understand others, express themselves, and navigate through the complex and exciting opportunities available in a pluralistic society. The CWCKC’s model of education has a proven track record across its network of schools already serving families in Los Angeles, CA and Brooklyn, NY.

At CWCKC, it is recognized that every student is a unique learner – each bringing a different way of thinking and a different understanding of the world into the classroom. Teachers are supported in offering engaging, challenging, and joyous lessons that allow students to access information in the way that leads to personal understanding.

Children at CWCKC will take part in academically integrated lessons based on inquiry and personal discovery. The school’s project-based approach allows for development of strong skills in literacy and mathematics, and the application of that learning to projects that connect to science, social studies, and service learning. With a breadth of teaching strategies in the classroom, and a commitment to serving diverse learners, children’s classroom experiences resemble the world they live in and translate to success in all arenas.
