Springtime is near, signaling it’s time to prepare for the biggest bash of the year at Metropolitan Community College-Blue River–“All for the Children!”
This marks the third year parents and children have access to child-friendly fun sprinkled with handy information about preventing child abuse and neglect. Save the date: 9 a.m. to …noon, Saturday, April 12 here on campus, 20301 E. Missouri 78. Don’t miss this free event, which is available to the public and is being held in April in recognition of Child Abuse Awareness month.
As is tradition, the fun includes an Easter egg hunt featuring 10,000 candy-filled eggs. But, plan to partake of many more activities. For instance, cyber security information will help parents navigate the growing complexities of social media.
For the first time, Cleveland Chiropractic will offer free spinal screenings and the Truman Medical Center Mobile Unit will provide free dental checks and referrals from 10 a.m. to noon to the first 40 children. The unit will be located near the MCC-Blue River Arts and Science Building. While no documentation is required, children must be younger than 18 and accompanied by an adult. Self defense classes for children will again be offered this year.
Another new event is on-site internet access, provided by the Blue Springs School District W.E.E. Learning Bus. Twenty computer stations offer children free internet and homework help, learning games and test preparation.
Entertainment will be provided by MCC-Blue River theatre students.
